1. You will require Mets for the toll roads and the ladies that are selling fruit etc at the camp. If you are coming through the Komatipoort Border, just before you start up the hill at the border there is a BP garage. There are ladies at BP that sell Mets at a good rate, so we recommend exchanging your money there. You can also use your bank card in Mozambique at the cash points. There are a few garages that will exchange Rands for Mets, rate is not the best. For the Tolls you will require about Mt600 to be safe.
2. Mozambique Third Party Insurance for your vehicle and / or trailer – available at Outdoor Warehouse or online through Hollard on the DriveMoz website- https://bit.ly/Hollsure-3rdParty-Insurance. This is not the same as your regular car insurance and is a must to have at the Mozambique border.
3. Car / Trailer / Boat registration papers for the Mozambique customs. They issue you with a travel document with the vehicle details.
4. At least one reflective vest per person in the vehicle. These you can get from Builders or people do sell them at the border too.
5. 2 x Warning triangles for the vehicle. These you can get from Builders.
6. Vulcanising type tyre repair kit (good idea to have but not a must).
7. 12V compressor (good idea to have but not a must).
8. Jumper cables / unless you have a dual battery system.
9. Blue triangle on front of vehicle if you have a trailer or a boat.
10. Fishing gear, goggles, or water sport activities you want to do. Bird books and binoculars.
11. All provisions i.e. food, drinks etc. You are not allowed to take red meat through the border into Mozambique, but you are allowed white meat and processed meats. Tinned foods are a good idea as well as a packet of popcorn to do in the pot. Remember your oil, salt, pepper, and any other spices you will need to use when cooking. There are ladies that come everyday and sell rolls, tomato’s, cucumber, lettuce, eggplant, coconuts, pineapple, bananas, peanuts amongst other things. Try have Mt50 and Mt100 as they don’t always have change.
12. Cooler boxes, camp fridges/freezers, ice.
13. Braai grid, charcoal, wood, matches, firelighters.
14. Wood is available from Martin at a small fee. The wood provides excellent coals for the braai.
15. Mosquito repellents/coils, suncream, toiletries, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, beach towels, first aid kit.
16. Although our water is pumped from the mangrove riverbed, you should bring you own drinking water as it is not filtered. You can buy bottled water at the shop at the top of the hill.
17. Rechargeable Lamps and torches for the nights. LED strip lights are very effective and available at camping shops. We encourage guests to bring solar lamps and torches which you can recharge for free during the day!
18. The chalets have beds, mattresses, and mosquito nets (we cannot guarantee that our nets do not have holes so if you are concerned, please bring your own!), linen and pillows.
19. Campers must please bring all their sleeping requirements and mosquito nets.
20. We do have gas cooking facilities but please bring your own full gas bottles.
